This guide will show you how to crop and compress images before uploading them to your website using a free tool called Canva.

Tools and Materials:

  • Free Canva account (no paid version needed)
  • Images you want to crop and compress

Steps:

  1. Sign up for a free Canva account.
  2. Choose the canvas size:
    • Click on the "Custom size" button in the top right
    • Select "Custom dimensions" and enter your desired size (e.g., 420 x 630 for portrait or 630 x 420 for landscape).
  3. Upload your image(s):
    • Drag and drop your image(s) onto the Canva canvas.
  4. Crop the image:
    • Click and drag the image to fill the canvas space.
    • You can also adjust the image position to show a different part before cropping.
  5. Repeat for additional images:
    • Click the "+" sign to add new pages for more images.
    • Crop each image by dragging and adjusting its size within the canvas.
  6. Download the compressed images:
    • Click "Share" in the top right corner.
    • Select "Download".
    • Choose "JPEG" (recommended for photos) instead of PNG.
    • Adjust the quality (100% for maximum quality, but lower for smaller file size).
    • Click "Download".
